(I have never experienced build times like these for debugging in any other IDE I've used). Not to mention, it takes 5 minutes to build the program each time I try. I still can't run a simple program on the emulator. I have wasted countless hours updating packages, researching error messages and warnings, updating the Android SDK, messing with targets, changing configurations, etc.

I have not been able to find any good documentation on how to setup VS Thanks for the other Android emulator recommendations in the other post. Please let me know if there is anything that I can share regarding my setup or configuration that would help troubleshoot my Android emulator issue. IMHO, I shouldn't have to spend my time googling VS errors and setup issues just to get the default 'Hello World' program to run.I was attracted to Xamarin because of the cross-platform capability, because as I mentioned, I don't have a lot of free time to write code but after what has been posted here about other cross-platform solutions I am now considering switching to native environments in hopes to avoid these kinds of issues altogether.Thanks for the responses. I can understand the time spent because it has to compile, transfer, install and execute. It needs about a couple of minutes to compile and execute a cleaned project, and less than a minute for a precompiled one (at least, the projects I'm doing). :)I'm still noob on mobile developement, but I tried the Google Android Emulator and VS Android Emulator, and the first is toooooo slooooow.I don't know you, but I don't think VS emulator is slow. We wanted them instant, they never said they will. I haven't had a chance to try those yet, although I would still like to understand why the Android emulator within VS will not work.There are no definite answer to why VS emulators will not work(neither did I said, as I could remember).I am not a SME on the emulators architecture, however sharing this with my reading and experience,The problem is the classic emulators were mostly x86(oh and ARM) and more or less not revamped, later Intel came up with HXAM (Basically hardware acceleration done using virtualization), so its kind of wrapper around the existing emulators, naturally performance was better yet not really cool as we see today with the third party tools like BlueStack or GenymotionThese third party tools were initially built with one goal in mind, play android games on PC, if not all of them at least first few player on the board were started with that in mind, so naturally they built their tools keeping eye on multi-core and VT in mind, stuff like Hyper-V and all those tech-turf.Today in the world of Corei7s and more, our patience level have been naturally reduced so we feel the classic emulators (even with HXAM enabled) really slow, coz our code compiles in seconds and old emulator take a minute or so.
